A symbiosis between architecture and research, Biomedicine Research Centre (CRBS)
Slats as sun protection & façade cladding
Established in 2020, the Strasbourg Biomedicine Research Centre (CRBS) is a federative structure bringing together 10 public medical and life sciences research laboratories.
Inserm and the University of Strasbourg are the founders of the centre, and around 300 scientists work there on a regular basis. Their common goal is to improve health, gain a better understanding of diseases and discover new therapeutic avenues.
The CRBS focuses on several areas of research, including neuroscience, immunology, infections, inflammation, medical genetics, biomaterials, regenerative medicine, cancer and metabolism.
The CRBS building is characterised by its simple volume and its pixelated façade, which it enlivens with its cameo of ochre and sand colours, echoing the Alsatian tile roofs of Strasbourg. This façade offers passers-by a pixelated representation of the Pompeii fresco Chiron and the inventors of medicine.
The building's cladding is both technically efficient and energy-efficient. It is made up of aluminium slats, all with the same profile and format. The slats can be used in a fixed position, forming a pattern, or in a mobile position, thanks to the adjustable brise-soleil. The different colours of the slats make it possible to recreate the complete pattern when the Venetian blinds are closed.
Griesser is extremely proud to have been able to contribute to the beauty and originality of the CRBS facade thanks to Metalunic, which, through the movement of its coloured slats, contributes to the artistic rendering that gives this building a unique and spectacular character. It's also an honour for our company to have been able to work for a place of international renown that embodies scientific progress and the future of medicine.
